Making a Move in Rain: Don't Let Rain Destroy Your Move

Moving your house in the rain would not be the ideal move for you. Moving out can be stressful enough, and the last thing you'd like is to be faced with the rain during your move day.

However, nobody can influence the weather in any manner. What you can do is to follow the weather forecast carefully and be prepared for the unpredictable whims of nature in the most efficient way possible.

Use these guidelines for moving during rain. Not only to be dry and keep your belongings dry, but also to avoid any nasty incidents on the day of your removal.

Be aware of the forecast for the weather.

Most of the time you'll have chosen a move date well before you have a clue about how the weather will turn out at the time of your move-out day. This is perfectly normal given the fact that a good house move takes several days, weeks and, at times, even months to plan.

It's not possible to predict the weather conditions for moving day ahead of time; however, the best thing you could do is follow the weather forecast and increase your anticipation as the day of the move gets closer.

The primary reason to follow this weather channel is to find out at minimum a few days in advance when the forecast is for heavy rain on the day you've decided to relocate. It's all about remaining at the helm of the situation during a relocation by making a backup plan if plan A gets destroyed by rain.

Just wait for the rain to end.

Moving during the rain shouldn't necessarily mean that it's a huge issue if the rain is predicted to end within a couple of hours. If it doesn't end completely, the heavy rain could be replaced by a drizzle, which will allow you to carry on with the house moving as scheduled.

The idea of waiting until the drizzle ends is an excellent idea when you have time to spare. If you're really strapped for time, you might not be able to sit it out. After the fact, there could take long hours of continuous rain until the skies begin to clear.

Protect your furniture with plastic sheets.

The most effective way to guard against moderate to light rain is to wrap furniture pieces with plastic sheets to ensure that they don't get wet while loading. Wrapping your furniture in plastic is good because it's relatively cheap and provides a great level of protection from water.

Check that your boxes are sturdy enough.

If you are making your move, the most important rule you must follow, irrespective of whether rain is predicted or not, is to choose sturdy cardboard boxes that the occasional raindrop won't damage.

In the ideal scenario, you purchase brand-new moving boxes from a reputable retailer. That being said, you could still use used cardboard boxes to lower the overall cost. However, you should make sure they're strong enough to stand up to some dampness during the process.

Close to the truck, park the vehicle.

If you've set that you're planning to move by yourself, not hiring a moving company, then you've already booked a truck for moving and are preparing to load it with your belongings.

One thing you can do is park your moving vehicle closest to the door to your front. Whether that entrance is part of a residence or apartment building, the goal is to keep some distance between the door and the truck, as circumstances allow, thus minimizing the possibility of exposing your possessions to water vapor.
